Stridr Privacy Policy
Stridr ("we", "the app") is a personal motivation app. This policy explains exactly what data Stridr touches, where it goes, and what never leaves your phone. The short version: we store the minimum needed to motivate you, we sell nothing, we show no ads, and we never use your data for anything except your own motivation.
What we collect and why
Account. Your email address and a password (stored as a secure hash), used only to sign you in and sync your profile across devices.
Your profile. The answers you give during onboarding and in Settings — your goals, who you're doing it for, your preferred voice and intensity, reminders, and personal targets (steps, sleep, workouts, nutrition). This is the raw material your motivation is written from. Stored in our database (Supabase), protected by row-level security so only your account can read it.
Generated content. The motivational lines written for you are saved to your feed so you can revisit and favorite them.
Your backup (optional). If you designate a backup, we store the name and phone number (or email) you chose for them, solely to send the messages described in the SMS section below.
Diagnostics. First-party usage events (e.g., that a check-in completed, that a notification batch was scheduled) tied to your account, used only to operate and debug the app. Retained up to 12 months.
On-device signals (optional, off by default)
Each of these is opt-in via a toggle in Settings and can be turned off at any time:
Health (Apple Health). With your permission, Stridr reads steps, sleep, workouts, exercise minutes, and nutrition you've logged (including from apps like MyFitnessPal that sync to Apple Health). This data is read on your device. Small same-day summaries (e.g., "4,100 of 10,000 steps") are included transiently in requests to our motivation-writing service so your lines reflect your actual day. Your nightly day record (saved to your account so streaks and verdicts work) includes that day's outcome summaries — e.g., steps toward your goal or a logged workout. Health data is never used for advertising and never shared for any purpose other than writing your motivation.
Calendar. With your permission, Stridr reads upcoming events on your device to time encouragement before moments that matter. Event titles (and, when present, brief notes/location) for the next 48 hours are sent transiently for classification and line-writing. They are not stored on our servers.
Location & weather. With your permission, your approximate coordinates are sent only to Open-Meteo (a weather service) to fetch current conditions. We do not store your location.
Notification engagement. Which notification types you tap is recorded on your device and mirrored to our own first-party diagnostics (no ad tech, no third-party analytics) to time future notifications better and to catch delivery problems.
AI processing
Your motivational lines are written by Claude, an AI model from Anthropic. To write them, our server sends Anthropic the relevant slice of your profile and the transient context described above. Anthropic's API terms do not permit using this data to train their models. Our server is stateless: it forwards the request and returns your lines without logging their content.
What we don't do
No advertising, and no advertising SDKs. No selling or sharing of personal data with data brokers. No third-party analytics or tracking. No use of health data for anything except writing your motivation.
Service providers
We use a small set of processors to run Stridr: Supabase (database and authentication), Anthropic (AI line-writing, as described above), Twilio (delivering backup text messages), and RevenueCat / Apple (subscription purchases — we never see your payment details). Each receives only what its job requires.
Data retention and deletion
Your profile and feed persist while your account exists. You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account, which permanently removes your profile, your feed, and your login from our servers. Signing out on a device removes locally cached data from that device.
Children
Stridr is not intended for children under 13, and the optional explicit-language mode is intended for adult users who enable it themselves.
Not medical advice
Stridr reads fitness signals to write encouragement. It is not a medical device and provides no medical, nutritional, or mental-health advice.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update this page and the effective date above.
SMS / text messages (Backup feature)
If a Stridr user designates you as their backup and you accept the role, Stridr may send you text messages related to that role. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties. Message frequency: maximum one message per week per recipient. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP, or reply HELP for help. Consent to receive messages is established when you explicitly accept a backup invitation via web link; no messages are sent before acceptance.
